Kentucky averages about 56,000 births a year, per public records. A sizeable portion of those births occur in a handful of Lexington-area hospitals.
Giving Birth in Lexington area Hospitals
Are you giving birth in Lexington, Kentucky or another part of Central Kentucky? It’s important for you to be aware of the basic quality statistics of our local hospitals!
In 2017, I realized that it was impossible to get current statistics on hospitals that provide maternity care in the Lexington, Kentucky region. The last data published by the state came from the year 2012.
LeapFrog is a national group that asks all hospitals to provide Cesarean rates voluntarily– but most hospitals in our area declined to participate. So I reached out to a data analyst at the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services. This Cabinet receives all hospital discharge data from every hospital in the state. She kindly pulled all the numbers for me so that I could crunch them myself.
I compiled those 2019 hospital childbirth statistics for those of you giving birth in hospitals in the Central Kentucky and Lexington, Kentucky area. I’ve included that handout below as a free resource for our community.
